Lets face facts.
- Westies are terriers and they have that hunting instinct. Hog-heaven for a Westie would be going down a hole after a fox or badger and duking it out.
- Almost all these little dogs, Westies, Cairns, Jacks are going to waste. By that I mean they are treated as pets and really have no opportunity to act out their terrier natures. In fact, a lot of terrier characteristics are regarded as problem behaviours by their owners.
I really thought that the idea of the working, hunting terrier was a thing of the past. If it survived anywhere I expected it to be in England. Today I discovered a web site and blog devoted to the subject of hunting terriers, and its an American site.
This is a no-bullshit web site that covers the subject of hunting terriers in great depth. The author, Pat Burns, has over 2000 posts on his blog concerning training, health, equipment and things you don’t even know now that you need to know. Its a fantastic resource.
So, if you think your Westie is just a pretty face check out the Terrierman. You may not ever use your Westie for hunting, but I guarantee you won’t ever look at your dog the same way again. Those little guys deserve some respect.
